Melanie Sears (1998-2000) is the only two-time NAIA Women's Basketball All-American. She also earned two All-American Mideast Conference honors. She holds five Dragons records, including career scoring (16.7) and rebounding (10.9) averages. She holds single season records for rebounds (365) and rebounding average (13.5) as well as grabbing a record 24 rebounds in a game during her senior season. Her rebounding average during her senior season also placed her among national leaders. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sears played professionally for Escola Secundaria de Santo Andre in Portugal, attracting the attention of WNBA scouts. Sears died in an automobile accident in 2001.
