The Tiffin University lacrosse team used consistent play on both sides of the ball to defeat the Walsh University Cavaliers 16-7.
The Dragon defense was tough on Walsh, surrendering only four shots in the 1st half. TU also forced the Cavaliers into 19 1st half turnovers leading to 23 shots by the Dragon offense. The Dragons and Cavaliers found themselves tied at 2-2 at the 17:46 mark in the 1st half, before Tiffin reeled off four straight goals over the next seven minutes. Tiffin added the final two goals of the half to lead 8-3.
Emily Roussel was the catalyst on offense, netting four goals in the 1st half, while Kat Schneeberger surrendered only three goals.
Walsh struck first in the 2nd half, but it was short lived. Tiffin, as they did in the 1st half, scored four straight goals to extend their lead to 12-4. The Cavaliers responded with a 3-0 run of their own, but Tiffin stepped on the gas pedal late, using a 4-0 run to put the contest on ice.
The Dragon defense forced the Cavaliers into 30 turnovers, leading to 40 shots by the offense. Tiffin held a 24-13 ground ball advantage, and led in draw controls at 15-10.
Emily Roussel found the net five different times, while also collecting an assist. Tori Nelson scored two goals and dished out a team high three assists, while Katie Hill, Morgan Sherley, and Amie Morrison each netted two goals. Kat Schneeberger earns the win in goal, collecting four saves.
The Dragons move to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in GLIAC play. TU will be back in action on Saturday, hosting GLIAC foe Lake Erie College at 1:00 pm.
