With a tremendous first half effort, sophomore guard Joe Graessle kept Tiffin University in the game against Michigan Tech. But basketball is a team game, and at the end of 40 minutes, the Huskies had beaten the Dragons 72-56. TU falls to 4-6, 0-4 in the GLIAC in dropping their fifth straight game.
Graessle tallied 20 points in the first half, helping the Dragons battle to a 35-35 tie at the half.
But in the second half, Graessle managed just 3 more points. Karl Finley and Michael Bouley were the next highest scorers with 6 points apiece. Graessle also connected on 10 of 14 free throws in the game, but the rest of the team managed to go 0-for-1 from the line.
With the score tied at 41-41 with 17:00 to play, the Huskies went on a 31-15 run to put the game away. Poor field goal shooting was the main culprit for the Dragons, as MTU outshot the Dragons 52-32 percent from the floor.
The Huskies also held a 10-4 edge in three pointers, as the Dragons went 0-for-9 from beyond the arc in the second half.
Michigan Tech held a 42-33 rebounding advantage. Travis Spahr was the leading rebounder for TU with 9.
