Box Score Tiffin University women's lacrosse (0-2) nearly erased a seven-goal deficit against Wheeling on Friday afternoon at the Paradiso Athletic Complex, but the Cardinals hung on for a 17-14 victory against the Dragons.
A slow start hurt the Dragons in this one as the visitors led 7-3 after one. Tiffin got back-to-back goals from Lillian Graham and Katelyn Jarvis for an early 2-1 lead, but the final 11 plus minutes of the opening period was all Cardinals. Following the slow start, the game was hard-fought the rest of the way.
With 7:13 remaining in the third quarter, Tiffin faced a 12-5 deficit and then started to get back in it. Graham, Caylin Kunze, Lauren Walsh, and Guinevere Salas all scored goals and cut the deficit to 12-10 with 13:01 left in the game.
Wheeling answered with a goal two minutes later to stave off any further TU momentum.
Walsh, Kunze, and Jarvis scored three goals each. Walsh and Salas both had two assists.
Sadie Wermuth took the loss in goal, making one save in 11:25 minutes. Sarah Hart played 48:35 minutes in goal and made six saves.
