Strong pitching leads TU to sweep of Glenville State

Tiffin University (7-7) got strong starting pitching from its staff, sweeping Glenville State on the first day of their series 6-0 and 6-1.

In the opener, Kyler Archual got the shutout win, going 6.1 innings and allowing just 2 hits with 5 strikeouts. Mat Carden finished up with 0.2 innings of work, fanning both batters he faced.

TU banged out 13 hits, with Griffin Stevens leading the way with 3 hits.

In the second inning, Ty Hatfield walked and Cal Brazier followed with a single. Andrew Fairbrother then drove in the first run with another single.

In the third, Tim Orr and Ricky Havrilla singled and advanced on a sacrifice. Brazier then singled to drive in two more runs.

In the seventh inning, Fairbrother walked and Aidan Grabowski drilled a two-run home run. Tommy Thamann followed with a double and then came home on Stevens' RBI single to finish TU's scoring.

Besides Stevens, Orr, Brazier, Fairbrother, and Grabowski all had two hits apiece, with Grabowski and Brazier both driving in two runs. 

In the nightcap, Noah Kandel started and went 5.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits. Zach Johnson came in in relief and finished with 2.2 innings of work, allowing just one hit and fanning 5 for the win.

Johnson benefited from a five-run outburst by the Dragons in the 8th inning.

In the eighth, Havrilla and Brazier singled and the bases were loaded shortly thereafter when TJ Truso was hit by a pitch. Grabowski walked to bring in one run and, with two outs, Fairbrother smashed a double for two more runs. Stevens followed with an RBI triple to give TU a 6-1 lead.

TU first got on the board in the first inning when Hatfield walked, Stevens doubled, and Orr was walked. A run then scored on a wild pitch.

Stevens had 3 more hits with a double and triple for 2 RBI, while Brazier also had two more hits.
