Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Walsh

The Tiffin University baseball team beat conference opponent Walsh in game one today, winning 4-3 in ten innings, then losing 4-0 in seven innings.

The Dragons improve to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the GMAC, while the Cavaliers improve to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the GMAC.

Game One:

With Michael Boswell and Drew Saunier starting on the mound for each team neither team was able to score in the first 5 innings. Finally, in the top of the sixth, the Dragons got two on the board. With a runner on first Griffin Stevens doubled to center field to score Thomas Auth from first. Two batters later with batters on first and third Jake Shier bunted and scored Griffin Stevens to lead 2-0.  

The Cavaliers countered in the bottom of the sixth with a single to third base that scored the runner on third to cut Tiffin's lead in half. 

Walsh scored again in the seventh to tie the game at 2-2. Tiffin struck back in the top of the eighth, scoring one run off a Mario Pugnetti single to center field to score Stevens. Walsh fought back though to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth.

The game was forced into extra innings but in the tenth with runners on first and third Kyle Vance hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Shier from third to lead 3-2.

Griffin Stevens led the offense in game one going 3-for-4 at-bat with a double, had one RBI, and scored two runs.

Boswell pitched the first five innings, allowing only seven hits, and one run while striking out five. Robert Guerrero III got the win, coming in in the eighth and pitching for 2.1 innings. He allowed one hit and struck out two. 

Game Two: 

With Michael Ross and Shenefiel starting on the mound neither side was able to get much on offense until the fourth when Walsh scored four runs, the biggest blow coming off a three-run home run to lead 4-0.

Neither team was able to round the bases the rest of the way as Walsh won game two 4-0. 

Michael Ross pitched 4.0 innings, had three strikeouts, allowed eight hits and four runs for his first loss this year. 

Griffin Stevens went 2-for-3 in game two and teammate Danny Donnelly went 1-for-3.
