Dragons Sweep Battlers, Take Series 3-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Cody Orr led Tiffin baseball with a stellar outing on the mound in a 4-1 game one win while the offense took care of game two 11-3 on Sunday as the Dragons took a pair from Alderson Broaddus to take the series 3-1.

With the wins, Tiffin improves to 9-9 in the GMAC this season and 12-22 overall.

The story of game one was Orr's pitching, as the sophomore hurled a complete game while allowing just five hits and one run with eight strikeouts and a lone walk. He only let three Battler runners reach scoring position, and did not allow a baserunner in three of the seven innings.

After going down in order in the top of the first, the Dragons broke loose for three runs in the second as Nich Green knocked a two-RBI double and Kyle Vance walked with the bases loaded to put TU up 3-0.

Tiffin added an insurance run in the sixth on Kole Klasic's second home run of the year, and it was more than enough as Orr and the Dragons cruised to the 4-1 win.

Jack Dennis was 3-3 from the plate in the game with a run scored, while Green was 2-3 with two RBI.

Tiffin took an early 5-0 lead in game two, as Kyle Vance homered in the first inning and the Dragons put up four runs in the third, including a two-out, two-RBI single off the bat of Colin BeDell.

The Battlers got three back across the third and fourth innings to cut the TU lead to two, but Klasic extended the advantage back up to four with an RBI double in the fifth. BeDell would add a sacrifice fly in the frame, giving TU an 8-3 lead through five.

The Dragons did not let up, adding three more in the sixth on a Zach Campbell RBI single, John Heckman RBI triple, and Jack Dennis RBI single to take an 11-3 advantage. Aaron George took care of the rest, earning the win on the mound after taking over from starter Gunnar Boehm and pitching the last 5.1 innings while allowing no runs and just two hits.

Four Dragons had multi-hit games in the nightcap, including Klasic, Dennis, and Heckman each picking up two RBI. BeDell also had a hit and three RBI in game two.

Winners of six of their last seven games, the Dragons will next host Malone for a nonconference matchup on Wednesday.
