Biography

2019:

John Heckman had one of the best seasons of anyone in TU baseball history in his final campaign, slashing .355/.433/.621 in 211 at-bats with 39 runs scored, 75 hits, 23 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 131 total bases, 64 RBI, and 22 walks. His slugging percentage, at-bats, hits, doubles, homers, and RBI marks all led the Dragons, while he also led the GMAC in at-bats, doubles, and RBI while ranking third in hits and eighth in slugging. His 23 doubles were fourth in all of Division II, and tied the Tiffin record for most in a single season. Heckman also appeared in the national rankings at 13th in RBI, as his 64 is the second-most in the Dragon record books. The senior also set TU single-season records in at-bats and total bases. Heckman's high for RBI in a game during the season came on 4/2 against Hillsdale, when he went 2-3 with a homer, 3 runs scored, and six RBI. He really caught fire in the month of May, though, hitting .436 and slugging .782 with 24 hits, eight doubles, three homers, and 24 RBI in just 12 games, averaging two hits and two RBI per game. He also recorded a hit in 16 of his last 17 games, including multihit games in 11 of 17, and belted a three-run home run in his final collegiate plate appearance. Heckman was named the GMAC Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks to end the season, and earned a First Team All-GMAC nod, ABCA First Team All-Midwest Region, and NCBWA Second Team All-Midwest Region. He finishes his career tied for third with eight triples and sixth with a career slugging percentage of .564.
