The Tiffin University baseball team traveled to Painesville, Ohio to take on the Lake Erie Storm on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons took game one 4-1, but game two was suspended due to darkness tied 9-9 heading to the 11th inning.
In game one, Logan Sendelbach took the mound, and he didn't disappoint. Sendelbach tossed 5 innings, surrendering one hit, walked one, and punched out 3.
Tiffin's offense got rolling in the 2nd inning, pushing 3 runs home on 4 hits, and 2 Storm errors to take a 3-0 lead. The inning began with Alex Hartley reaching on a fielding error by the Lake Erie shortstop. Devin Ambrose then doubled down the left field line to move Hartley to third with nobody out. Garrett Vernau then singled to center field to score both runners. Noah Heard followed that up with a single, and Seth Bryant brought home the final run of the inning with a single.
In the 4th, Garrett Vernau led off with a double to right field. He motored on home with the help of Noah Heard's RBI single to give TU a 4-0 lead.
Lake Erie pushed their only run home in the 6th. Three Dragon walks and a sacrifice fly scored that run. Beyond that the Storm, offensively, was nothing more than a passing cloud burst. The Storm collected only 4 hits as Dragon pitching was dominant.
Logan Sendelbach earns the victory on the mound for Tiffin. Tim Benner and Patrick Bellinger were the last two Dragons on the mound. Combined they tossed two innings, giving up three hits, no runs, and struck out two. Bellinger earned his first save of the season.
At the plate, Tiffin banged out 10 hits as a team. Elijah Sanabria, Garrett Vernau, Noah Heard, and Seth Bryant each collected two hits. Vernau scored two runs and knocked in two runs.
The win moves Tiffin to 18-25 overall and 11-14 in GLIAC play.
