It was a night to remember for the Tiffin Universitiy women's lacrosse team.
For the first time in school history, the Dragons were hosting a postseason playoff game, as Wheeling Jesuit came to town for the GLIAC Quarterfinals. The Dragons (9-8) responded with a strong 22-5 victory, sending them to the Final Four at Grand Valley State May 3 to take on Lake Erie.
Secondly, the team won its 9th game of the season, continuing the winningest season in school history. The previous wins record was 7 in 2010-11.
Last but not least, Alexandria Quast reached perhaps her greatest athletic milestone, breaking the NCAA Division II record for most points in a career. Quast, who tallied 16 points against the Cardinals, now has 392 points, one ahead of Long Island-Post's Jackie Sileo's 391. Her 8 goals give her 273 career goals, third in Division II history and just 2 shy of equaling second place.
As if that is not enough, Quast now has 90 goals this season, leaving her just 2 goals shy of the NCAA Division II single season goals record.
The game stayed reasonably close for the first 20 minutes as the Cardinals attempted to control the tempo and slow down the pace. WJU trailed 5-2 with 8:39 to play in the half. But TU scored four of the next five goals to take a 9-3 lead into the break.
The second half was all Tiffin, as they outscored the Cardinals 13-2. The Dragons took control, outshooting WJU 36-13 and controlling the draws 21-7.
Quast seemed to be everywhere on the field, tallying 8 goals and 8 assists to factor in 16 of TU's 22 goals. She also had 3 caused turnovers with 2 ground balls. Katelyn Hill also played well, scoring 4 goals with an assist and winning 12 draws. Emily Roussel also had 5 goals with 3 assists.
Alexis MacMillan had 3 goals, Kelsey DeRidder and Kalie Weinheimer had goals, Shannon Lubin had 2 assists, and Megan Belch also had an assist along with 5 ground balls and 5 draw controls.
Jessica Bombard got the win in goal, making 4 saves over 56 minutes.
