Tiffin University (1-1) picked up its first win of 2013, jumping out to a 6-0 halftime lead and streaking past Newberry (SC) for a 13-3 victory.
The Dragons played solid defense, not allowing a goal to Newberry until there were just 10 minutes remaining in the game. They outshot Newberry 24-16 and held a 13-10 edge in ground balls while committing just 14 turnovers in the game.
Alexandria Quast had a strong day, scoring 5 goals with 4 assists for 9 points. Four of her five goals came in the first half. Emily Roussel and Alexis MacMillan also played well, scoring 3 goals with an assist apiece.
Kalie Weinheimer had a goal and assist while Katelyn Hill also scored. Kelsey DeRidder and Shannon Lubin also had assists. Jessica Bombard got the win in goal, making 8 saves and allowing just one goal in 56 minutes.
The Dragons continue their spring trip with a 7 pm game at St. Leo University (FL) March 11.
