Tiffin University (1-2) picked up a narrow 14-13 victory on the road over Lees-McRae, playing well over the first 45 minutes and then holding on as LMU made a run at the end.
Tiffin held a narrow 8-6 lead at the half but made solid adjustments and expanded their lead to 13-7 with 16:30 left to play.
Tiffin made the most of their shots, tallying 14 goals on 24 total shots while LMU had 36 shots but connected on only 13 goals. Tiffin's defense did a solid job throughout the game, connecting on 23 of 26 clear attempts while breaking even with LMU on turnovers. While the Dragons held a huge 50-22 disadvantage on ground balls and an 18-10 deficit on draws, they were efficient on the offensive end and pulled out the victory.
Lees-McRae had a chance to tie the game. After a Dragons turnover, LMU called timeout with 39 seconds left. But a LMU turnover was picked up Alexandria Quast and cleared out with 25 seconds left to secure the TU win.
Quast had a superb game, scoring 5 goals with an assist, while Melissa Cooper also had 4 goals and an assist. Elyse Braun had 3 goals with an assist, while Taylor DeMaio also had a goal and assist. Emily DeMartino scored a goal, while Kelley Miller also had an assist.
