Tiffin University baseball (11-19, 6-8 G-MAC) opened North Division play with a split against rival Findlay on Friday, defeating the Oilers in game one 13-6 while dropping game two 7-0.
Game 1:
The game one win snapped the Oilers' 12-game winning streak as Brandon Swope struck out a career-high 11 to earn the win.
Trailing 1-0 in the first, the Dragons scored four with two outs to take a 4-1 lead. Brayden Clark doubled and Michael Patellis blasted a no doubt two-run home run over the left field wall to make it 2-1. Gavin Marceric was thrown out at home trying to steal to end the inning.
TU plated four in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth. A four-run sixth inning blew the game open. The two-run third and fifth innings came via a two-run home run. Skrelja hit one in the third and Marceric hit one in the fifth. A bases clearing double by Leach in the sixth made it 13-5 to give the Dragons a comfortable lead.
Swope improved to 2-1 on the year, throwing 5.0 innings. Swope allowed four runs on three hits with three walks while striking out a career-high 11. Brett Madison threw 3.2 innings of relief and struck out eight to earn his first save of the season. Madison allowed one run on two hits and walked three.
Three TU pitchers combined to strike out 20 in the game.
Leach went 4 for 5 with 5 RBI while Clark and Marceric recorded two hits each. Ruhe was the only batter to not record a hit but drew three walks.

Three, two-run home runs powered the Oilers offensively.
