Tiffin University battled during day one of the NCAA Region 4 Championships, advancing numerous grapplers to day two.
Overall TU was tied for 7th of 18 teams. North Central was first with 84.5 points followed by Grand Valley State with 78.5. Tiffin and Adrian were tied with 34.5 points.
Three Dragons advanced to semifinals action on day two.
Jenavi Alejandro (110 pounds) advanced with a 12-0 tech fall over John Carroll, while
Annesley Day (124) defeated John Carroll 10-0 and Aurora 10-8 to advance.
Sophia Antonio (138) also reached the semis with wins over Trine by fall in 2:09 and Manchester 11-5.
Also advancing in the consolation rounds to day two is
Erin Martin (160). Martin opened with a 6-0 win over Otterbein but then fell 10-0 to Mount Union. She bounced back to defeat John Carroll by fall in 3:59.
Also posting wins on day one but not advancing to day two were
Sienna Sanborn (131) with a win by pin in 3:45 over Alma, Gennaveve Matt (145) by fall in 4:37 over Illinois Wesleyan, and
Jordan Torres-Carrillo (180) by fall over Heidelberg in 1:02.
At stakes on day two will be trips to the National Championships. The top three placers in each weight class will make the trip.
