Wilkins retires as TU Head Baseball Coach

After 17 seasons with the Tiffin University baseball program, including 13 as Head Baseball Coach, Joe Wilkins is announcing his retirement from Tiffin athletics.

Wilkins compiled a 284-328 career coaching mark with the Dragons. During his tenure, which also included two seasons as a graduate assistant coach and two more seasons as an assistant coach, the Dragons reached numerous high points on the diamond.

Wilkins was named NCBWA Midwest Region Coach of the Year and G-MAC Coach of the Year in 2022 as the Dragons won the G-MAC regular season title. He led the team to the 2019 G-MAC Tournament championship and a 2019 NCAA Midwest Regional appearance, reaching the Midwest Championship game. The team also set a new program single season wins record with 32 wins in 2017.

Wilkins also coached a total of 15 G-MAC First Team selections as well as numerous TU players that reached the professional ranks.

"We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Joe as he has left a lasting mark in athletics and the baseball program, exuding leadership, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to our student-athletes," said Athletic Director Kelly Daniel. "Joe, Vickie, Elliana, and Evan - you will always have a seat in Dragon Nation. Joe, we celebrate your career that truly made a difference and wish you all the best!"

"I want to thank Tiffin University for everything it has done to shape the man who is leaving here," said Wilkins. "I appreciate Lonny Allen for giving me this opportunity, Kelly Daniel for always being there for me, the coaches who have helped me and allowed me to help them. The coaches who have coached with me and helped hundreds of people see what true success looks like in this space. I am appreciative for all of their support and their efforts."

"Thank you to all of those who had a part in my career in baseball and also to those who had a hand in helping me into my next calling. I am looking forward to that chapter and want to thank everyone for their part in the previous chapters of my life. Good luck to the current players and their families and may they find a great coach and great mentor, who makes this bigger than baseball."
