Dragons unable to cool down red-hot Northwood

Tiffin University baseball (13-20, 5-11 G-MAC) suffered two more defeats on Sunday, falling 9-3 and 17-2 to Northwood (21-10, 16-0 G-MAC) in games three and four of a north division showdown.

In game one, the Timberwolves put a four spot on the board in the opening inning off TU starter Scotty Adelman to take the early advantage. Andrew Fairbrother scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Swonger to make it 4-1 in the fourth, but Northwood blew it back open in the bottom of the inning scoring three more times to make it 7-1.

Fairbrother added a two-out, two-run single in the ninth to make it 9-3 and a pop out by Cal Brazier ended the game. Northwood scored in four of the six innings that they batted in.

Adelman (L, 3-4) started and took the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing seven runs (6 earned) on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Andrew Baileys and Nick Hayes both pitched 1.0 scoreless innings. Bret Petrigac pitched 0.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with one walk.

Fairbrother, Ty Hatfield, and Hilario DeLaPaz had one hit each to account for the Dragons' three hits in the game. The Dragons drew seven walks in the game with Griff Cady and Jack Clancy each drawing two.

In game two, the Dragons scored in the first inning as Cady singled home Fairbrother to make it 1-0. Northwood tied it in the bottom of the first and then took the lead in the second to make it 3-1.

Tiffin got one run back in the third thanks to a miscue by the NU shortstop. Northwood took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the third inning and then scored 14 unanswered runs to put the run rule shortened game into play. The Timberwolves scored four in the third, three in the fourth, and seven in the sixth and after scoring in four of the six innings in game one, NU scored in five of the six innings they batted in game two.

Hatfield was 2-for-4 at the plate and Clancy, Luke Westerman, and Nate Adelman each walked once.

Nick Feasel (L, 2-1) started and took the loss pitching 2.0 innings and allowed six runs on six hits with two walks. Zach Johnson pitched 2.0 innings and allowed four runs (1 earned) with two walks and struck out three.

Steven Sexton pitched 1.1 innings and allowed seven runs (6 earned) on seven hits and struck out one. Andrew Baileys pitched 0.2 scoreless innings.
