Tiffin University baseball (16-25, 8-16 G-MAC) dropped the final two games of the series with Findlay on Friday, dropping game one in another slugfest 17-11 and was defeated 12-5 in game two. After winning the series opener, the Dragons were unable to secure at least a split in the series.
The two teams combined for 17 runs in the first two innings of game one. Tiffin got off to a good start as Ty Hatfield scored on an RBI single in the first and Cal Brazier scored when Hilario DeLaPaz reached on a fielder's choice. Findlay brought the bats as well and plated three in their first plate appearance to take the lead as they scored three runs on four hits in the inning.
The Dragons answered right back in the second with four runs to take a 6-3 lead. TU took advantage of two errors by the Oilers in the inning. Luke Westerman reached on an error to start the inning and Colin Crisenberry, Hatfield, Aidan Grabowski, and Brazier followed with four straight singles. With two outs, Griff Cady was thrown out trying to score on a single by DeLaPaz to end the inning.
Findlay quickly took back momentum, plating eight runs in the second on seven hits. The Oilers scored in five of the six innings that they batted in. Cady made it a 14-11 game in the sixth with a three-run home run but Findlay answered with a three-run home run of their own in the same inning. In their final at bat, Westerman led off with a double but was stranded.
Scotty Adelman (L, 4-5) started and took the loss pitching 1.2 innings and allowed nine runs on nine hits. Zach Johnson pitched 2.1 innings while Bret Petrigac and Ryan Yingst each pitched 1.0 innings.
Brazier went 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI and Cady was 2-for-4 with 5 RBI.
The Dragons once again got off to a hot start in game two as Cady delivered an RBI single in the first and DeLaPaz had a two-run double. That was quickly undone though as Findlay scored six in the first two innings including five in the second to lead 6-4.
The Oilers extended their lead to 11-4 through four and after scoring four in the first two innings, the Dragons managed just one run in the final seven innings.
Nick Feasel (L, 2-2) started and took the loss pitching 3.0 innings and allowed nine runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts. Mason Brunecz pitched 1.0 innings and Brett Madison 4.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Hatfield was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two walks and DeLaPaz was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
