Box Score Tiffin University baseball (7-3) got back in the win column on Tuesday with a close 3-2 win against Davis & Elkins as a trio of TU pitchers held the Senators to just three hits.
Three runs were just enough for the Dragons in this one and all three came in the first inning. Luke Westerman was plunked with a pitch to get the early rally started. Tiffin then got three straight singles from Brayden Clark, Johnny Baileys, and Michael Patellis to take a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Baileys came around to score on an RBI single by Cadence Varner.
The Senators scored both of their runs in the fifth inning and took advantage of an error by TU pitcher Jacob Soha. Soha struck out the first two batters of the inning and then hit the next batter which started the rally.
Two of their three hits occurred in the fifth inning, and they would not have a batter reach via a hit for the remainder of the game.
The Dragons had two batters reach base in both the sixth and eighth innings but couldn't push across anymore runs. In the eighth, Aidan Grabowski and Dylan Ruhe singled with one out and pinch hitter Ty Hatfield stepped to the plate but grounded into an inning ending double play.
The Senators were retired in order in the ninth.
Brett Madison got the start in this one and pitched 4.0 innings with six strikeouts and did not allow a run. Jacob Soha got the win, pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts while allowing two runs. Andrew Baileys pitched the final 2.0 innings to record the save.
Ruhe was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one walk while six other Dragons recorded one hit each. Johnny Baileys, Patellis, and Varner each had one RBI.
