Box Score 2 Tiffin University (10-6) took on Florida Tech as it continued its Florida trip over spring break, posting a split in two close games.
The Dragons won the opener 2-1 as
Jules King pitched a gem. King went the distance and allowed just 4 hits and one earned run with 3 strikeouts.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, the Dragons tied the score.
Baylee Mirgon singled and then stole second.
Tara Gall was then safe by an error at shortstop and
Aubrie Harper was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mirgon then scored on
Maya Miles sacrifice fly to make it 1-1.
TU took the lead for good in the next inning.
Reagan Mengerink singled and advanced to third on
Maci Head's double.
Molly Koesters then doubled down the left field line to put TU on top.Â
KIng took it from there, as she only allowed one runner in scoring position after the second inning.
In the nightcap, the Dragons fought back only to fall in the bottom of the seventh inning 4-3.
Claire Feldkamp started and allowed 3 runs in the first inning but TU clawed its way back. The Dragons got on the board in the fourth inning.
Maddie Woods tripled to right field and came home on Mirgon's single to make it 3-1.
Tiffin tied the game in the sixth inning with two runs. Mirgon singled and Harper followed with a walk. After a single by Miles loaded the bases, King singled for one run. Mengerink then followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game 3-3.
The Dragons could not get another run across, and Florida Tech plated the final run in its last at-bat after a wild pitch with runners on first and third.
Feldkamp took the loss, allowing 4 earned runs in 6.1 innings with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks.
Tiffin outhit Florida Tech with 10 hits, as King, Mirgon, and Miles all had two hits.Â
