Dragons beat Minnesota Duluth 14-4 to gain split

Tiffin University (5-7) gained a split in its Florida finale, beating Minnesota Duluth 14-4 after falling 11-3 in game one.

In the win, Kyler Archual got the win, tossing 2.1 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits. Zach Johnson also pitched well in relief, going 3.2 innings and fanning 5.

TU banged out 17 hits, led by three-hit efforts by TJ Truso, Tommy Thamann, and Griffin Stevens. Truso drilled three doubles, while Stevens had 3 RBI with 2 doubles. Thamman also had 2 RBI.

Ricky Havrilla added two hits for 2 RBI, Tim Orr had 2 hits, and Ty Hatfield had 2 RBI with a double.

It all started in the first inning. Aidan Grabowski singled followed by a Truso double. Orr singled to drive home one run and was followed by Cal Brazier's walk and Andrew Fairbrother's single. Havrilla singled home another run.

In the second, Thamann singled and moved up on a passed ball. Truso doubled, as did Stevens for 2 RBI. Orr singled and Stevens then scored on a wild pitch.

More runs came in the third. Havrilla singled and advanced on a wild pitch. An error at second let a run score, and Truso doubled in another run. Stevens capped the scoring in the third with another run-scoring single.

In the sixth, Stevens doubled and Orr and Fairbrother both walked. Ben Bach was then hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Thamann walked to push another across.

Finally, in the seventh, Truso walked, Stevens was hit by a pitch, Michael Zinter singled, and Havrilla walked to push a run across. Hatfield then doubled for two more runs, and Thamann singled for the final RBI.

In the opener, Gunnar Boehm took the loss, going 4 innings and allowing 5 earned runs with 7 hits.

TU got their runs in the second on a Cal Brazier solo shot, and in the seventh when Orr singled and Fairbrother tripled him home. Stevens then followed with another double for TU's final run.
