Dragons Pummel Pride 5-1

Box Score

The Tiffin University women's soccer team picked up their first GLIAC win of the season on Friday, dominating the Pride of Purdue Northwest 5-1. The Dragons found the net five times in the game, the first time they've scored at least five goals since scoring six on September 11, 2011 against Lake Erie.

Tiffin got it going early on the offensive end, taking a 1-0 lead at the 10:52 mark on a Taylor Lewis goal. Adrianna Currie, assisting on the Lewis goal, continued to find open teammates, hooking up with Markella Suka in the 21st minute to give Tiffin a 2-0 lead. The Dragons added one more goal in the 1st half, as Alli McCabe popped a shot past the Pride's keeper to give Tiffin a 3-0 lead and give Currie three assists.

At the break, the Dragons held a commanding 13-4 lead in shots and 4-1 lead in corner kicks.

The offensive outburst carried over into the 2nd half, as Tiffin's Markella Suka claimed her second goal of the day with Leanne Tobin getting the assist. With three assists in hand, Currie figured she'd add a goal as well, finding the net in the 86th minute to give Tiffin a 5-1 lead.

At the final horn, the Dragons outshot Purdue Northwest 28-9, including a 12-6 advantage on shots on goal. The Dragons allowed only one corner kick to the Pride, while racking up eight for themselves.

Individually there were numerous stars to pick from, as Adrianna Currie totaled five points on three assists and a goal. Her three assists in a game ties a single game Tiffin record, tying her with Shelly Rogers who did the feat on September 30, 2011. Markella Suka also registered five points, netting two goals and adding an assist. Taylor Lewis finished the game with a goal on three shots, and Alli McCabe added a goal on four shots. Samantha Ortenzi earned the win in goal, collecting five saves.

The Dragons are now 2-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC. They will now head to Davenport University to tangle with the Panthers on Sunday.
