Tiffin University (27-17-1, 12-10-1 GLIAC) culminated a 5-1 week with a hard fought split with Saginaw Valley State, falling 2-0 in the opener but battling to win 3-2 in 11 innings in the nightcap.
In the victory, TU got two bases loaded walkss to take a 2-0 lead that they held into the 4th inning. The Cardinals then scratched together two runs to tie the game in the 5th inning. Tiffin had numerous chances to win the game, stranding runners in scoring position in the 7th, 8th, and 10th innings before finally breaking through in the 11th.
With Alayna Lytle on third base, an error by Saginaw Valley's shortstop on a ball hit by Cassandra Brown allowed the winning run to score for TU.
Sarah Brown got the win with 2 innings of relief, not allowing a hit. The Dragons threw all their pitchers in the game, with Tiffany Snell tossing 2 innings, Kimmy Reynolds throwing one inning, and Kelsey Yaratch coming up big with 6 innings of work. Yaratch allowed just 4 hits and 1 earned run.
Cassandra Brown had 2 hits with a double while Jena King had 2 hits. Michelle Poe had a double while Amanda Rock also had an RBI.
In the opener, both TU and SVSU each had just 3 hits, but the Cardinals made the most of their hits, scratching across 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Yaratch took the loss, tossing 1 inning of relief. Reynolds tossed 2.2 innings and Sarah Brown threw 2.1 innings as the duo combined for just 1 hit allowed.
TU tried to rally in the 7th inning, getting the tying runs on base with just one out but were unable to get them home.
