The Tiffin University softball team was baffled offensively, scoring only five runs in two games to fall 7-3 and 3-2 to the Ferris State Bulldogs.
Game One
Dragon starting pitcher Kelsey Yaratch got off to a rocky start, surrendering a run on two hits in the top of the 1st. The Dragons got on the board in their half of the 2nd, with Sarah Brown belting a long drive to left center field, clearing the wall to tie the score at 1-1. The wheels began to wobble in the 4th for the Dragons, as four Bulldogs crossed the plate on four hits and two costly errors.
Ferris State tacked on two insurance runs in the 7th to lead 7-1. Amanda Rock led off the bottom of the 7th with a single, and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Jena King singled to put runners on the corners with one out, and Sarah Brown delivered again, lining a single to left field to score Rock. King would score on a wild pitch, but it was too little, too late, as TU fell 7-3.
Kelsey Yaratch took the loss on the mound, tossing 3 2/3 innings. At the plate, Sarah Brown finished 3 for 3 with a home run, two RBI's, and a run scored.
Game Two
The second contest was a dual of right handed pitchers, with the youngster Tiffany Snell hurling for the Dragons. Snell held Ferris in check, while her offense generated run support in the 3rd. Tiffin took advantage of a few Bulldog mistakes to plate a pair of runs. Libby Crow scored the first run on a wild pitch, after reaching on an error. Sarah Brown's sacrifice fly to right field enabled pinch runner Jamie Sevenish to score, giving TU a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs rallied in the 4th, tying the game at 2-2 on three hits and a walk. Neither side could plate a run in the 5th, but Ferris delivered the knockout blow in the 6th, scoring a run with a pair of singles to drop the Dragons 3-2.
Tiffany Snell was the tough luck loser on the mound, tossing six innings for the Dragons and punching out a half dozen. Offensively, Tiffin managed only five hits and stranded eight runners.
The two losses drops the Dragons to 20-14 overall and 5-7 in GLIAC play.
