The Tiffin University women's basketball team fell on Saturday afternoon to the Findlay Oilers 71-65. The Dragons' hopes of sweeping the season series fell short late in the contest.
The 1st quarter was a slow go for the two sides, with the Dragons mustering only three points. Findlay did hit double digits, racking up a 10 points. The pace of play and scoring both skyrocketed in the 2nd quarter. The Dragons, struggling from three in the 1st half, did their damage inside the arc. Tiffin poured in 21 points in the 2nd, but allowed the Oilers to score 22. At the half, Tiffin trailed the Oilers 32-24.
Bre Nauman led the Dragons at the break with five points, while Rachel Price and Ali Schirmer added four points. The two squads were tied in the rebounding category with 20, but Findlay doubled up the Dragons in paint points at 20-10.
Tiffin made their move in the 3rd quarter, racking up 23 points, including four made three point buckets. Tiffin's defense held Findlay to 18 points in the quarter. Ali Schirmer connected on two long range buckets for TU, pulling her team even in the 3rd period.
Tiffin and Findlay played the vast majority of the 4th quarter within five points of each other. It wasn't until late in the final period when the Oilers used a short run to put the game away, splitting the season series.
Tiffin was led by Ali Schirmer with 17 points. Allie Miller added 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting, and Bre Nauman scored 7 points and collected 12 boards.
The loss drops the Dragons to 6-16 overall and 4-13 in GLIAC play.
