TIFFIN, Ohio – Following the conclusion of a national search, Tiffin University Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Director of Athletics
Kelly Daniel is pleased to announce that Jordan Sweeney has been selected as the next head coach of the women's basketball program.
"Jordan immediately connected with our search committee, and it was clear that his leadership style, vision, and ability to build meaningful relationships set him apart," said Daniel. "We are confident he will inspire our student-athletes, strengthen our culture, and elevate our program to new heights. The future of Dragon women's basketball is bright, and we are excited to watch Jordan lead us forward in the pursuit of excellence."
Sweeney comes to Tiffin after a three-year stint as associate head coach at Northern Michigan University. "I am truly grateful and excited for this opportunity, and I want to especially thank
Kelly Daniel along with administration for entrusting me with leading the Tiffin women's basketball program. I look forward to getting to know our players, connecting with the community, and building a successful, winning program."
It was a historic season for Northern Michigan, as the Wildcats' 25 wins marked their highest total since the 1999-2000 season and they climbed as high as No. 21 in the WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll. During his tenure, Sweeney played a key role in developing multiple all-conference and All-American student-athletes.
During the 2021-22 season, Sweeney served as the head coach at NAIA Union Commonwealth University. Prior to that, he was the head coach at the University of Michigan-Dearborn for five seasons, where he led the program to historic success. In 2018-19, he earned both University of Michigan-Dearborn Coach of the Year and Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Women's College Coach of the Year honors. Sweeney also developed numerous all-conference student-athletes, including the program's first-ever All-American.
Proceeding his time at UM-Dearborn, he was an assistant coach for the Ferris State University men's program from 2013-15 where he helped contribute to a GLIAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
"Jordan has built a highly successful coaching career, and we could not be more excited to welcome him as the next leader of our women's basketball program," added Daniel. "He brings an unmatched passion for the game, an incredible work ethic and a relentless commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. His energy, competitive mindset, knowledge, leadership and commitment to excellence position our program for continued success."
Sweeney graduated from Central Michigan University in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a minor in personal and community health.
