Tiffin University (1-1) posted a split in their opening spring games, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 2-1 before falling late in a 5-3 loss to Wheeling Jesuit.
In the opener, Kelsey Yaratch and Tiffany Snell combined for an efficient pitching performance. Yaratch went 4 innings and allowed just 3 hits to get the win, while Snell tossed the final 3 frames to get the save.
Trailing 1-0, Melissa Poe did all the damage the Dragons would need, stroking a two-run double in the 5th inning for the game-winning RBIs.
Libby Crow also had 2 hits, while Allyson Rock had a double.
In the nightcap, TU jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Amanda Rock drilled a two-run home run, followed by Cassandra Brown's triple that plated another run. But it all fell apart in the 6th inning when WJU rallied for four runs to take the lead for good.
Sarah Brown had been cruising up til the 6th, eventually taking the loss after 5.1 innings of work. She allowed 4 earned runs and fanned 7. Snell finished up the game, allowing an unearned run.
Cassandra Brown had 3 hits with a triple and RBI, while Amanda Rock had two hits with a HR. Allyson Rock also had 2 hits.
