The Tiffin University women's basketball team put forth their best offensive game of the year on Thursday evening, and it was more than enough to best the Ohio Dominican Panthers 85-72.
ODU, having won 20 games thus far, grabbed a five point lead late in the 1st quarter at 13-8. Tiffin kept the pace, outscoring the Panthers 11-7 to trail 20-19 after a quarter of play. The Dragons rode the momentum right into the 2nd quarter, tying the score at 29-29 with 3:52 left before the half. Tiffin put the finishing touches on the 2nd quarter, racing ahead on an 11-3 run to close out the half, taking a 40-32 lead to the locker room.
In the 3rd quarter, the Panthers fought and clawed, but were still outscored by the Dragons 18-14. Tiffin continued to hit on all cylinders, shooting 51% from the field for the game. Headed to the 4th and final quarter of the season, TU held a 58-46 lead. Tiffin saw their double digit lead fall to seven points, before back to back three point buckets by Kaylee Patton and Allie Miller pushed the advantage back to 13. The Dragon lead continued to grow, peaking when Bre Nauman was hacked while driving to the basket, making the layup. Nauman's free throw made it a 77-60 lead for TU. Down the stretch, the Dragons took advantage of their opportunities at the charity stripe, hitting 16 of 22 2nd half attempts, leading to a 85-72 victory.
Freshman Ali Schirmer led the way, battling back from injury to score 17 points and collect four steals. Kiley May stormed off the Dragon bench, scoring 16 points on 4 of 4 shooting from the floor and a 6 of 7 performance from the free throw line. Deidre McKay chipped in with 15 points off the bench, and also dished out five assists. Bre Nauman added 10 points before fouling out, leaving her 23-points shy of 1,000, and senior Jessica Farr played with a fire in the low post, scoring 6 points while grabbing a team high 7 rebounds.
The win moves the Dragons to 8-19 overall and 6-16 in GLIAC play.
