The Tiffin University women's basketball team beat the buzzer on Thursday afternoon, holding on to beat the Oilers 69-66.
The first quarter was all Tiffin, as TU built a 20-7 lead before Findlay knew what hit it. The second quarter saw the script flip, as it was Findlay's turn to make a push. The Oilers outscored the Dragons 23-16 in the quarter, and Tiffin took a 36-30 lead to the half.
At the break, the Dragons were on fire from the floor, shooting 58%. The Dragons were also effective from three point range, going 5 for 9. The TU defense held the Oilers to 38% shooting from the floor, but even more impressive was the Dragons' perimeter defense that held Findlay scoreless from the three point line. Bre Nauman led the Dragons in scoring with 15 points, and Findlay's Christa Puthoff led the Oilers with 7.
Out of the locker room, Findlay seized the momentum and roared out of the gate with a 14-7 run to take a one point lead. Ultimately, Findlay outscored the Dragons 24-13 in the 3rd quarter, including 14 points in the paint.
Tiffin headed to the 4th quarter trailing by five points, but that would not last. The Dragons tied the game at 56-56, but Findlay regained the lead, and held it until the :37 mark. Kaylee Patton's two free throws tied the score at 64-64, but a Findlay bucket gave them the lead at 66-65. With :10 left, Bre Nauman used every ounce of energy to get by Findlay defenders, and knock down the go ahead layup with :07 remaining. The Oilers had one last gasp, but Nauman and Rachel Price combined to contest the Oilers' final shot.
Nauman had her best performance of the season, scoring 28 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Ali Schirmer added 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Dragons defense was tenacious on the three point line, surrendering only one made three point shot.
The win moves Tiffin to 4-11 overall and 2-8 in GLIAC play.
