The Tiffin University women's soccer team exploded for three goals in the 2nd half of their match with Findlay, to defeat the Oilers 4-1.
The Dragons and Oilers played 26 scoreless minutes in the 1st half of their contest, and then the scoring began. The opening salvo was rocketed into the back of the net by Svetlana Gudenkova from teammate Adrianna Currie to give TU a 1-0 lead, which would be the score at the end of the half.
In half number two, the Dragons didn't waste any time, scoring in the 52nd minute on Gudenkova's second goal of the game, and the assist went to Brittney Koester. Abby Tabor got in on the scoring in the 65th minute, as she found the back of the net, with Gudenkova collecting the assist. With the score at 3-0, the Dragons put one more run together to seal the deal. Haleigh Goedde sent a pass from midfield to Gudenkova, and she did the rest, scoring her third goal of the game. Findlay would end the shutout in the 87th minute, but the Dragons cruised to a 4-1 win.
Samantha Ortenzi earned the victory in goal, facing 10 shots and saving 8. Her defense blanketed the Oiler offense, and made life easier on the the Tiffin attack.
Svetlana Gudenkova took four shots, with all being on goal and three finding the net. She added an assist to bring her point total on the day to seven. Abby Tabor added a goal, and Adrianna Currie and Brittney Koester each picked up an assist. The Oilers held the advantage in shots at 16-10, but Tiffin made their shots count as 70% of their shots came on goal.
The win moves the Dragons to 2-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC. The Dragons will be back in action this Friday as they head to Allendale, Michigan to tangle with the 8th ranked Lakers of Grand Valley State.
