Tiffin University battled back throughout both games of their twinbill against Northwood but could not manage to pick up a win, falling 10-8 and 9-7 at Heminger Field.
In the opener, Northwood took advantage of Dragon errors to jump on starter Logan Sendelbach, who lasted 3.2 innings and allowed 7 runs (3 earned) while walking 5. They opened up a 4-2 lead but came back to tie it 4-4. Northwood jumped back on top with 3 more runs, chasing Sendelbach before Mike Cooperider came in to pitch 2.1 innings of relief.
The Dragons came back again, tallying 4 runs in the 4th inning to take an 8-7 lead, but Northwood scraped two runs together in the 6th inning to retake the lead 9-8.
The Dragons had chances over the last two innings, putting runners at second and third with nobody out in the 6th but failing to get any home. In the seventh inning, the Dragons again had runners on second and third but were kept off the board.
Elijah Sanabria had a big game, totaling 4 hits with a double and triple for 3 RBI, while Nick Hueneburg had 2 hits with a double for 2 RBI. Isaac Perry had 2 hits with a double, while Garrett Vernau added a triple and Seth Bryant had a double.
In game two, Northwood exploded against starter Patrick Bellinger, scoring 7 unanswered runs over 1.2 innings of work. But the Dragons would not quit, scoring 3 in the 3rd, 3 in the 5th, and tying the score 7-7 with another run in the 6th inning.
Northwood picked up solo runs in the 7th and 8th innings off reliever Brady Ward, who came in after a combined 4 innings of scoreless work by Mark Deitsch and Devon Fisk. Ward finished the game, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing 2 earned runs for the loss.
Hueneburg and Cody Spires each had 3 hits with RBIs, while Sanabria and Vernau also had 2 hits with RBIs. Perry had a double and RBI.
