Tiffin University (16-24) broke out the lumber on a blustery day at Heminger Field, smacking out 18 hits and combining with Cedarville for 32 total hits and 27 runs in a 16-11 victory.
Both teams traded runs early. With TU up 4-3 in the fourth inning, the Dragons erupted for 5 runs in the bottom of the frame to jump ahead to a 9-3 lead.
Cedarville bounced back to tally 5 runs in the top of the 5th, cutting the deficit to 9-8. But the Dragons were not to be denied, as they plated 4 more runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 13-8.
Cedarville rallied for 3 runs in the 7th inning, pulling to within 13-11 but again the Dragons countered with 3 more runs in the bottom of the 8th to seal up the win.
Steven Gonzalez started the game, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 2 earned runs. Mark Deitsch came on in relief, tossing the next 2.2 innings to pick up the victory. Justin Bailey, Nate Brunty, and Cody Spires finished up the game, pitching 4 innings and allowing 3 earned runs.
The hit parade was long for the Dragons. Devin Ambrose had 4 hits with a double, while Alex Hartley had 3 hits with a double for 4 RBI. Hayden Spellbring added 3 hits with a double for 4 more RBI. Nick Hueneburg had 2 hits with a double, while Trent Stamm also drove in 2 runs with a double. Noah Heard had 2 hits for 3 RBI while Kyle Heller also had 2 hits.
