The Tiffin University softball team lost both games on Monday afternoon, falling 5-0 to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles, and 10-7 to the West Liberty State University Hilltoppers.
In game one, the Dragons handed the ball to Kimmy Reynolds. Reynolds mowed down the Golden Eagles for three scoreless innings. She gave way to Taylor Spang in the 4th, and the wheels began to wobble for the Dragons. Spang lasted 2/3 of an inning, giving up 3 hits and 4 runs. Kelsey Yaratch relieved Spang and got out of the 4th. Yaratch stayed in to pitch and threw another 2 innings, surrendering a run in her final inning of work, and the Golden Eagles led 5-0 after 6 innings.
Sarah Brown made an appearance in the 7th and struck out the side, but the Dragon offense was nonexistent. Tiffin went on to lose by the final count of 5-0.
Taylor Spang was saddled with the loss, and Kristin Prokopakis collected half of the Dragons' six hits, going 3 for 3, all singles.
The start of game two seemed like a continuation of the first game. Madison Yanek drew the start on the mound and never recorded an out. Yanek gave up 2 runs, a hit, and walked 2, but the defense behind her didn't help out, as Tiffin made two costly errors to prolong the West Liberty State Hilltoppers half inning.
The Dragons and Hilltoppers traded punches inning by inning, but Tiffin wasn't ever able to climb the hill and fell 10-7. Madison Yanek took the loss for the Dragons, but after her departure Coach Nickerson went to the bullpen three different times.
Offensively, Kristin Prokopakis continued her hot streak, collecting three more hits to bring her two game total to 6 for 6 with five singles and a double. Taylor Spang added two hits, a single and a double, and Kristin Robinson was 1 for 3 with a double in the 2nd inning to plate two Dragon runs.
The Dragons surrendered 15 runs on the day, but will jump back in the saddle tomorrow for another two game set. Tiffin sits at 3-5 overall, and will take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania in game one, and Quincy University in the night cap.
