The Tiffin University Dragons fell in Detroit on Thursday evening 90-71. Strong interior post play helped the Warriors build a 52-22 advantage in points in the paint, and a 38-29 rebound advantage.
The first half saw the Dragons fall behind, but were able to put together a comeback to cut the deficit to 11 points after trailing by 20 points earlier in the half. The Warriors were led by Des Lavita-Stephens in the 1st half with 13 points. Bre Nauman led the Dragons with 13 points. The Dragons managed to shoot 50% from the field, 50% from three, and 50% from the free throw line. The problem was that Wayne State was even hotter than Tiffin, shooting 51.4% from the field, 57.1% from three, and 83.3% from the free throw line.
The Warriors jumped on the Dragons right after halftime, quickly pushing their lead back to 20 points. Tiffin would respond and cut the deficit to 12, but the second half play of Shareta Brown was too much for the Dragons to overcome. Brown scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half, and added 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Wayne State was led in scoring for the game by Gabby Machado and Des Lavita-Stephens, both with 18 points. The Dragons were led by Bre Nauman with 23 points, Kaylee Patton added 12, Jordan Fraley scored 11, and Shelby Cheston came off the bench to contribute 11 points and 8 rebounds.
The loss drops the Dragons to 5-16 overall and 4-11 in GLIAC play.
