The Tiffin University men's basketball team fell to the Lake Erie Storm 58-56. The Storm were able to win despite the Dragons out rebounding them 41 to 27, and being out shot from the field 37.3% to Lake Erie's 34.8%.
The cold must have affected both teams at the start, sluggish pace and poor shooting led the game off, but once the two teams started to hit the scoring picked up. The Dragons favored the inside physical play of Chrisean Marsden, Mohamed Rage, and Korab Imami to pick up easy buckets. Meanwhile, the Storm preferred to ambush the Dragons from the three point line. At the half, both teams were shooting just above 30% from the field, but the Dragons held a two point advantage at 23-21 because of strong post play and a 24-10 rebounding advantage.
The Dragons held their lead for a little while in the second half, but the Storm was brewing, and the result was more three pointers. In total the Storm would make 10 treys and the Dragons could only manage four. Tiffin continued to play hard and fell behind by as much as six late before making their move. The Dragons trailed by a single point when Roy Alexander stepped to the line for two free throws. Alexander made one of two, leaving the door open for the Dragons to tie or win the game. An Ashton Khan running left hand floater fell short and the Storm escaped with a 58-56 GLIAC victory.
The Dragons were led in scoring by Ashton Khan with 16 points, Marsden finished with 9 points and 5 boards, Korab Imami chipped in with 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Mohamed Rage added 7 points and 6 rebounds.
The loss drops the Dragons to 7-19 overall and 3-16 in GLIAC play.
