The Tiffin University women's basketball team fell to the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon, by the final score of 76-59.
At the end of one quarter of play, the Cardinals held a slight 15-13 edge, but built upon that lead, outscoring the Dragons 18-11 in the 2nd quarter. At the intermission, Tiffin was led in scoring by Alison Schirmer and Bre Nauman with eight points each. The Dragons struggled shooting the ball, only hitting at a 41% clip from the field, and 20% from beyond arc. One area where the Dragons excelled was controlling the basketball, committing only two turnovers in the 1st half.
The turning point in the game came in the 3rd quarter, as Saginaw used a 14-6 run to extend their lead to 16 points. The Dragons would trail by 16 at the end of the 3rd quarter, 58-42. The Cardinals maintained their lead in the 4th quarter, scoring 18 points, while holding the Dragons to 17.
Tiffin was led in scoring by Alison Schirmer with 16 points, Jordan Fraley added 12 points, and Bre Nauman netted 10 points before fouling out of the contest. Tiffin finished 22 of 59 from the floor, and shot 26% from three. For as good as the Dragons controlled the ball in the 1st half, they did the exact opposite in the 2nd half, committing 12 turnovers, and being out rebounded 43-31.
The loss drops the Dragons to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC.
