The Tiffin University men's basketball team fell on Thursday night to the Hillsdale Chargers by the final score of 82-75.
In the 1st half, the Dragons and Chargers played a tight contest, with seven ties and neither team leading by more than five points. The Dragons led 33-32 with 03:30 left in the half, but the Chargers, without their leading scorer due to foul trouble, finished the half on a 8-2 run to lead 40-35 at the break.
At the half, the Dragons were led by Tony Kynard with 14 points, and Alex Brown chipped in with 9 points. The rest of the team accounted for 12 points. Tiffin shot 34% from the field, 25% from beyond the arc, and 67% from the free throw stripe. The Dragons held a slight 23-21 advantage on the boards, and committed only four turnovers. They managed to hold the high powered Hillsdale offense to 46% shooting from the floor, but 25% of Hillsdale's 1st half points came from the charity stripe.
The Chargers started the half by improving their lead to six points at 46-40, but the Dragons responded with a 10-4 run to tie the game at 50-50. With the game tied, the Dragons went cold from the field, and the Chargers used a 10-0 run to go ahead 60-50. The Dragons gave it their best down the stretch, but the Chargers refused to surrender the lead, as they put the game away from the free throw line, making 16 free throws in the 2nd half.
Tiffin was led in scoring by Tony Kynard with 22 points, Alex Brown added 17, Chrisean Marsden pitched in with 12 hard earned points, and Andy Bachman came off the bench to score 14 points. The Dragons shot 35% from the field for the contest, and held Hillsdale to 4 of 23 shooting from three, but the difference in the game came at the free throw line with Hillsdale making 26 and the Dragons only 17.
The loss drops TU to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in GLIAC play.
