The Tiffin University women's soccer team fell Sunday afternoon to the Ashland University Eagles 1-0.
It took 69 minutes to break a 0-0 tie, but the Eagles found a way to damper the homecoming weekend for the Dragons, as Ashland chipped a shot just over the outstretched arms of Samantha Ortenzi to take a 1-0 lead.
The Dragons, playing an undefeated Ashland team, allowed seven shots in the 1st half, but Ortenzi was there to deny the Eagles. On the other side of the ball, Ashland's defense was just as good, only surrendering three shots to the Dragons, with only one coming on goal.
With the exception of the lone goal, the Dragons' defense was up to the task of shutting down a potent Eagle attack. Tiffin allowed 12 total shots on the day, with only five coming on goal. Samantha Ortenzi recorded four saves, but received no offensive support, as she took the loss in goal.
The Dragon attack was held to six total shots, with only half coming on goal. The Dragons managed only three corner kicks, and allowed the Eagles to take 10.
The loss drops TU to 2-6-1 overall and 0-5 in the GLIAC. Tiffin will be back in action next Friday at home, as they host Michigan Tech.
