Northern Michigan downs Dragons

Box Score $website.include("options")

The Tiffin University women's soccer team fell Sunday afternoon, losing 3-1 to the Northern Michigan University Wildcats.

The Wildcats got on the board first, ricocheting a shot off a Dragon defender to go ahead 1-0. Tiffin tied the score in the 41st minute, as Brittney Koester smacked a shot off the post, which bounced right to the charging Valerie Brown, and Brown finished the job to knot the score at 1-1.

In the 2nd half, it was all Northern Michigan, as they added a goal in the 64th minute off a corner kick, and then tacked on another goal in the 72nd minute via a free kick to jump out in front by the score of 3-1. Tiffin had their chances, sending forth eight shots, but the Wildcat keeper made six saves in the half to keep the Dragons off the board.

Tiffin recorded 14 shots, but allowed Northern Michigan to take 24. The Wildcats also held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks. Valerie Brown netted the lone Tiffin goal, with the assist going to Brittney Koester. Adrianna Currie came as close as you can to scoring a goal several different times, but was denied by the Wildcats. Samantha Ortenzi takes the loss in goal for the Dragons, facing eight shots, while saving five.

The loss is the 5th straight by the Dragons, and drops them to 2-8-1 overall and 0-6 in the GLIAC. Tiffin will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Painesville, Ohio to take on the Lake Erie Storm.
