The Tiffin University women's basketball team knew they had a tough task at hand on Thursday night as they played host to the Wayne State University Warriors. The Warriors came in ranked 6th in the nation and defeated the Dragons 91-52.
The Dragons and Warriors both started slow, but Wayne State made a 12-2 run to push thier lead to 20-6. The Dragons would make a push of their own, catching fire and cutting the deficit to five. Right before the half, the Warriors used free throw shooting from Christina Green to push their lead to 42-31.
The second half was a whole other story. The Warriors used a 26-0 run to effectively put the game away. It would take the Dragons nine minutes to score their first basket of the second half. The Warriors bench contributed 48 of the 91 points. One area that cost the Dragons was in the turnover department, as the Dragons turned it over 21 times, leading to 30 Warrior points. The Warriors would shoot 57.9% from the field, 45.5% from three, and 80% from the free throw line. Wayne State was led in scoring by Shannon Wilson with 13 points. Shareta Brown would finish with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Dragons were led in scoring by Kaylee Patton with 13, only 3 coming in the second half. The Dragons would shoot 30% from the field, 16.7% from three, and 70% from the charity stripe. The Dragons were beaten up in the post as they surrendered 36 points inside, and were out-rebounded 43-30.
The loss drops the Dragons to 4-11 overall and 3-6 in GLIAC play. The Dragons will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to Findlay to take on the Oilers at 1 pm.
