The Tiffin University men's basketball team squeaked by in overtime against the Warriors of Wayne State University, 65-59.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half. The Warriors were able to use a few three point shots to push their lead to as much as eight points. The Dragons would not go away, as they were able to keep the deficit at eight or lower despite going 0-10 from three. In the first half, the charity stripe kept the Dragons alive as they were 8-8 and Wayne State did not have an attempt. Wayne State led at the half 30-24.

The second half is when it really got interesting. With Wayne State leading 32-24 at the 19:49 mark in the second half, the Dragons went on a 9-0 run to take a one point lead. From that point on, the lead for either team never exceeded four points. The Dragons held a three point lead with four seconds remaining when Gavin Toma hit a 25 foot fall away three at the buzzer to force overtime. In that overtime, the Dragons out scored the Warriors 11-5. One of the main reasons the Dragons were able to outlast the Warriors in overtime was the clutch free throws down the stretch. The Dragons were 4-4 in overtime from the free throw line.

The Dragons shot 39.3% from the field, 21.1% from three, and 81% from the free throw line. Meanwhile, the Warriors shot 35% from the field, (6-20 in the second half), 45.5% from three, and 75% from the charity stripe.

The Dragons were led by Ashton Khan. Khan may have played one of his most complete games as a Dragon. Ashton would finish with 21 points, 9 assists, and 4 steals. Khan would go 8-9 from the free throw line. Khaleal McCormick led all scorers with 22 points and 5 rebounds. The Warriors were led by Gavin Toma with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

The Dragons improve to 6-10 overall and 2-7 in GLIAC play. Tiffin will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Findlay to take on the Oilers. The game is scheduled for a 3 pm start time.
