TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Cassie Brown had three hits as the Tiffin University softball team (15-10, 4-4 GLIAC) lost, 8-0 and 8-1 to Saginaw Valley State (16-5, 12-2 GLIAC), Sunday afternoon at Paradiso Fields.

In the opener, Saginaw Valley State scored in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Tiffin got their leadoff hitter on in the first and third but the Cardinals were able to escape.

SVSU scored seven runs in the fourth and sixth inning to go up 8-0. In the sixth, sophomore Kristin Robinson led off with a single. Saginaw Valley State turned a double play, committed an error and ended the game on a ground out.

For Tiffin, Brown had two hits. Freshman Taylor Spang (6-2) gave up eight hits, eight runs, four earned, walked five and struck out five in six innings.

For SVSU, Mackenzie Rousse had two hits and Shelby Weeks drove in two runs. Sarah Vrabel (6-3) threw a three-hitter with three strikeouts in six innings.

In the night cap, the Dragons struck in the second inning. Robinson singled and walks to Spang and junior Kaitlin Gruenewald loaded the bases with one out. Brown singled up the middle to drive in Robinson to make it 1-0.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Cardinals used three hits and two errors to score four runs. TU had just one hit the rest of the way while SVSU scored four more runs for the win.

For Tiffin, sophomore Jena King had two hits. Junior Madison Yanek (4-5) gave up 11 hits, eight runs, four earned, walked four and struck out three in six innings.

For SVSU, Shelby Weeks had three hits and drove in three runs. Sarah Appold (5-0) came on in relief and gave up one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts in five innings.
