CANTON, Ohio - Three players had two hits each as the Tiffin University baseball team (8-21, 7-5 GLIAC) lost 8-7 to Malone (14-16, 9-6 GLIAC), Sunday afternoon at Thurman Munson Stadium.
In the first inning, Tiffin used two hits, an error and a walk to score three runs. Malone would come back to score four in the bottom of the inning.
In the second inning, a walk to senior Mario Rodriguez, a single from freshman Devon Fisk and a walk to sophomore Garrett Vernau loaded the bases with two outs. Junior Nick Calandra singled through the right side to score Rodriguez and Fisk.
The Pioneers would score in the third to tie the game. In the sixth, junior Cody Spires singled and freshman Isaac Perry reached on an error. Following a sac bunt, Spires would score on a sacrifice fly from Fisk.
MU would tally two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-6 lead. In the eighth inning, Perry singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Fisk would single to right field to score Fisk. In the bottom of the eighth, Malone would use a passed ball to get the eventual game-winning run.
For Tiffin, Calandra had two hits, drove in three runs and stole two bases while Spires and Fisk had two hits and two RBI's each. Freshman Justin Bailey (1-2) gave up one hit, one run which was unearned and walked one in one inning.
For Malone, Davis and Gray had three hits each. Carey (1-0) gave up two hits, one run and struck out one in one inning. Beachy (2) walked one in the ninth to record the save.
