HILLSDALE, Mich. - Strong pitching and timely hitting helped the Tiffin University baseball team (14-29, 13-13 GLIAC) rally to beat Hillsdale (15-30, 13-16 GLIAC) 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Simpson Field.
Hillsdale put the pressure on right away, scoring two runs in the first inning. In the fourth, sophomore Elijah Sanabria singled to right field. Sophomore Garrett Vernau then parked the ball in the grass behind the fence. That tied the game at 2-2.
The Chargers got a run in the sixth to go up 3-2. In the seventh, sophomore Cole McCurry went deep to knot the game up at 3-3.
In the ninth, McCurry singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Isaac Perry ripped a double to left field to score McCurry. The Dragons set HC down 1-2-3 in the ninth to get the win.
For Tiffin, McCurry had two hits and scored two runs while Vernau drove in two runs. Senior Kevin Kline (2-3) gave up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out three in eight innings.
For Hillsdale, Ethan Wiskur had two hits. Joe Chasen (0-2) gave up two hits, two runs, walked one and struck out one in three innings.
