Tiffin University (20-15, 7-9 GLIAC) battled hard against Grand Valley State but came up short in two games, falling 6-3 and 3-1 in 10 innings.
In the opener, the two teams were tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning when the Lakers took advantage of TU miscues to score 4 runs in the inning. The Dragons got two runs back in the top of the 7th but it wasn't enough.
Taylor Spang took the loss, allowing 2 earned runs over 6 innings while fanning 8. Jena King had 2 hits with a double for 2 RBI, while Payton Denman and Cassandra Brown also had 2 hits each.
In the nightcap, Madison Yanek started and tossed 5 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits. Spang came on in relief and pitched 5 more innings. The Lakers got a run in the top of the 7th, but Yanek sent the game to extra frames with a solo blast in the bottom of the inning.
Grand Valley State scraped together two runs in the top of the 10th to take the lead. The Dragons had three chances to score with the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the inning but could not get a run across.
King had 2 more hits with a double, while Yanek, Denman, and Spang also all had 2 hits.
