ASHLAND, Ohio Junior Nick Calandra and sophomore Jordan Widman had two hits each as the Tiffin University baseball team (9-26, 8-10 GLIAC) lost 10-4 to Ashland (18-13, 8-8 GLIAC), Wednesday afternoon at Donges Field.
In the first inning, Widman and sophomore Garrett Vernau led off with singles. Following two outs, an error loaded the bases. A fielder's choice ended the inning.
In the sixth inning, Calandra singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ashland retired the next two batters to escape. The Eagles, who had just three hits after five innings, scored nine over the next two innings to get the win.
For Tiffin, freshman Dan Sexton (2-3) gave up six hits, four runs with three earned in 5.3 innings.
For Ashland, Kyle Brooks had three hits and drove in three runs. Alex Smith (4-4) gave up nine hits, three runs, two earned, walked one and struck out four in seven innings.
