TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Kristin Prokopakis had six hits, scored four runs and stole five bases as the Tiffin University softball team (17-12, 6-6 GLIAC) swept Lake Erie (4-25, 1-17 GLIAC) 8-3 and 9-0, Sunday afternoon at Paradiso Field.
In the opener, Lake Erie used five hits and two errors to take a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second.
In that second half, sophomore Kelsey Yaratch walked. Sophomore Cassie Brown had a sacrifice bunt that was misplayed. When the dust settled, Yaratch was at third and Brown on second.
Sophomore Kristin Robinson grounded out to score Yaratch. Following a ground out, Prokopakis singled to plate Brown. Tiffin would score six runs over the next four innings to seal the game.
For Tiffin, Prokopakis had three hits, scored two runs and stole three bases while sophomore Jena King and junior Madison Yanek had two hits and two runs each. Yanek (5-6) gave up 10 hits, three runs, only one earned and struck out five in seven innings.
For Lake Erie, Maddi Klemp, Kate-Lynn Urgo and Lindsay Valvoda had two hits each. Amanda Anderson (1-9) gave up eight hits, eight runs, four earned, walked two and struck out five in six innings.
In the nightcap, with two outs, King slammed a shot to dead center field to make it 1-0 in the first. Yanek doubled and would score on a single by junior Payton Denman. The Dragons would score in the third.
In the fourth inning, TU used two errors and three hits to score four runs. After scoring two in the fifth, Tiffin shut down the Storm in the bottom half for the win.
For Tiffin, Prokopakis had three hits, scored two runs and stole two bases and King had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two runs. Freshman Taylor Spang (7-3) gave up one hit, walked three and struck out two in five innings.
For Lake Erie, Jeniffer Gratz broke up the no-hitter with one out in the fourth. Katarina Davis (2-9) gave up six hits, four runs, all earned, walked one and struck out four in three innings.
