PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Five players had two hits each as the Tiffin University baseball team (9-25, 8-9 GLIAC) lost 9-6 to Lake Erie (18-14, 12-7 GLIAC), Sunday afternoon at Braggs Field.
Lake Erie hit Tiffin for four runs in the first inning. Tiffin would score a run in the fourth with the Storm getting a run in the fifth.
In the sixth inning, sophomore Anthony Dodds singled and moved to second on a double by junior Cody Spires. Freshman Trent Stamm singled to clear the bases and make it 5-3.
LEC countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The squads traded runs in the seventh.
In the ninth, TU refused to go quietly. Freshman Kyle Lento reached on an error and scored on a booming triple by junior Nick Calandra. Sophomore Cole McCurry singled through the left side to score Calandra with one out. Lake Erie turned a double play to end the game.
For Tiffin, Calandra, Dodds, sophomore Elijah Sanabria, Spires and sophomore Garrett Vernau had two hits each. Senior Joe Perretta (1-3) gave up four hits, four runs, three earned, walked one and struck out one in 2/3rd of an inning.
For LEC, Zack DeCamp and Lucas Raley had three hits each. Russ Hogue (3-2) gave up nine hits, three runs, walked two and struck out two in six innings.
Tiffin is on the road, Wednesday, April 16, taking on Ashland. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m..
