Carried by solid field goal shooting and a big advantage at the charity stripe, Tiffin University (10-15, 6-14 GLIAC) beat Ashland at the Gillmor Center.
Tiffin shot 52 percent in the game, showing consistency throughout the game as they shot over 51 percent in both halves. They also hit on 27 of 34 foul shots, holding a 27-14 edge over the Eagles. The Dragons also kept the ball under control, only committing 9 turnovers.
Ashland led 30-24 with 5:11 to play in the first half, but the Dragons got hot over the final 5 minutes, outscoring the Eagles 12-6 to tie the score 36-36 at halftime.
The Dragons continued their hot streak out of the halftime locker room, racing to a 16-4 burst that put them up 12 points after the first 7 minutes. Ashland used three point shooting and healthy rebounding to creep back into it, cutting the lead to 67-63 with 2:47 to play.
The Dragons maintained their composure, though, responding with a 6-0 run including 4 Joe Graessle foul shots to go back up 10 points with just 1:14 left.
Graessle lit it up for 27 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals, while Khaleal McCormick also had 24 points. Mike Boan had 12 points and Ashton Khan added 11, while Jonathan Sutherlin played well with 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 steals.
