Tiffin University (1-7, 1-3 GLIAC) did a lot of things right in their road tussle with 24th-ranked Grand Valley State, but just enough wrong to come out on the bad side of the ledger, falling 69-61 to the Lakers.
The statistics would indicate a strong showing for the Dragons on the surface, as they outshot Grand Valley 40-35 percent and outrebounded them by a huge 50-25 margin. They also held a 21-6 advantage in bench scoring and a 22-6 scoring lead in the paint.
But 23 turnovers were far too many to overcome for TU, while Grand Valley only turned the ball over 6 times. The Lakers also held a 19-5 advantage from the free throw line.
TU led 36-33 with 14:39 left in the second half, but the Lakers responded with a 21-9 run over the next 6:00 to take a 54-48 lead with 7:58 left. TU managed to cut it to 3 points within a few minutes but the Lakers continued to hit their free throws to put the game away.
Kaylee Patton led TU with 18 points, while Anya Misko had 11. Jordan Fraley added 11 points with 9 rebounds while Shelby Cheston had 8 points and 12 rebounds off the bench in 21 minutes. Bre Nauman also had 5 points with 9 rebounds.
