Tiffin University Women's Soccer battled the University of Findlay Tuesday afternoon and did battle with the weather. Rain soaked the playing field at Paradiso Athletic Fields and the Oilers rained on the Dragons parade. Tiffin and Findlay battled through regulation, the first overtime, and into the second overtime before Findlay prevailed 3-2.
Findlay struck first in the first half when Kristen Fruchey scored at 6:52 when she chipped a kick over Tiffin goalkeeper Samantha Ortenzi. The Oilers tacked on another goal to extend their first half lead to 2 goals when Eryn Weber scored off a rebound of Fruchey's shot at 12:12. Tiffin responded with a couple goals of their own.
First, Brittney Koester scored an unassisted goal as she put in her own rebound at 18:20 to cut the Oiler lead in half. The spark for the Dragons in the first half came in the form of Lindsey Hall. Hall was rewarded not long after checking in when Veronica Zaciek assisted on her goal at 19:28.
Neither team scored in the second half. And, neither team scored in the first overtime. Overtime number 2 started out as the first had finished but at 104:17 Katelyn Anderson scored with a chip shot over Ortenzi's head off the assist from Fruchey for the hard fought 3-2 double overtime win. Ortenzi finished the game with 10 saves.
Findlay improves to 6-3, 3-1 GLIAC. Tiffin falls to 2-8, 1-3 GLIAC. The Dragons will be back in action Friday 3 pm when they travel to Ashland for another key GLIAC contest.
